Attache Backup - Frequently Asked Questions
How is the data stored ?
Data is stored using the industry standard Zip file format.
This means that many standard software packages, including
Winzip, PKZip etc, can be used to examine the resultant backup
file. Try doing that with other backup software !
Can I use CDs for backup ?
Yes. CDs can be used for backing up provided an appropriate UDF driver is installed.
Nero's InCD UDF driver and Adaptec's DirectCD UDF driver are probably the most commonly
available examples and both work well. When a suitable UDF driver is installed, a CD-RW or CD-R disk
may be written to and read like a floppy disk. This allows Backup for Attache to function normally.
This simple CD-RW support in Windows XP is not suitable for use with Backup for Attache.
How big is the backup file ?
The Zip file format typically yields a compression ratio of
about 4 to 1 for Attaché data. This means that if your data is
100 Mbytes, the backup file will be about 25 Mbytes.
Does Backup for Attaché support floppy disks
?
Yes!! Backup for Attaché now supports disk spanning (new in
ver 1.1.0) and hence it can be used with floppy disk sets.
How does Backup for Attaché find the Attaché
Data ?
Backup for Attaché uses the Attaché datamap.dat file to
identify the data directories to be backed up.
So it always knows where to find the data.
Does Backup for Attaché recognise the
ATBPW.INI file ?
Yes. Backup for Attaché will use the ATBPW.INI file if
present to find the relevant Attaché datamap file.
This may be the case for Attaché installations which have
migrated from Attaché5.
Does Backup for Attaché work with Catapult ?
Yes. Catapult uses the same datamap file format.
The Backup programmes should be installed in the Catapult
directory.
Where are the Backup Job details stored ?
Job details are stored in the file backup.ini located in the
programme directory.
Can I run multiple jobs from one Desktop
Shortcut ?
Yes. Using the Create Shortcut function in the
Actions menu you can select an unlimited number jobs to be run
from the one Windows Shortcut.
Can I rename the original company directory
before restoring ?
Yes. The Restore dialog allows for renaming the original
directory. If renaming is selected, it will automatically
suggest a new directory name consisting of the original name
followed by the date.
Can I restore to another company ?
Yes. The Restore dialog allows for restoring to an alternate
location. It allows restoring to either another Attaché company
or to another directory.
